Details about Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a research-based program which combines FDA-approved medication and behavioral therapy to treat substance use disorders – specifically opioid and alcohol addiction.

Konza MAT patients can attend daily group support meetings at our Junction City clinic.

MAT patients also have access to a certified Konza MAT Peer Mentor.

While there are a few different medications that can be used for MAT, Konza specifically uses Naltrexone and Suboxone.

Naltrexone is used to treat both opioid use disorder (OUD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD) as part of MAT. Naltrexone binds and blocks receptors in the brain and reduces cravings. Learn more about Naltrexone at www.SAMHSA.gov.

Suboxone is used to treat opioid use disorder (OUD) as part of MAT. Suboxone is a brand name drug that is a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone. This medication partially binds to the receptors in the brain to diminish the effects of physical dependency to opioids, such as withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Learn more about Suboxone (Buprenorphine) at www.SAMHSA.gov.

Prolonged use of opioids and alcohol changes your brain chemistry. Medications administered through MAT specifically target the area of the brain that has been affected by drug and alcohol use.

MAT medication:

  • Normalizes your brain chemistry to block the euphoric effects of alcohol and opioids
  • Relieves physiological cravings
  • Normalizes your bodily functions without the negative and euphoric effects of the substance you were using

MAT is available to a variety of patients. Our team works closely with local recovery centers and primary care providers to increase awareness of treatment availability.

Most insurers cover treatment and Konza’s MAT Program Coordinator will help you determine what your plan covers.

If you don’t have insurance, you may qualify for reduced-cost services based on income and family size.

Contact your Konza medical provider today and let us help guide you through the process.

The first step to signing up for MAT is an intake call with the Konza MAT Program Coordinator.

After this call, we’ll schedule an induction appointment to occur as soon as our schedule and yours will allow. At your induction appointment, you will discuss your treatment plan and goals with a certified MAT healthcare provider and will receive your first dose of medication.

Each patient’s treatment plan is unique, and your level of treatment depends on your current condition.

The length of time a patient receives MAT is tailored to meet the needs of each person, and in some cases, treatment can be indefinite.

To prevent possible relapse, individuals can engage in ongoing treatment – with or without MAT.

An outpatient treatment program allows you more flexibility depending on your personal, professional, and family commitments – it’s your treatment on your schedule.

Our MAT Program Coordinator works with each patient to ensure their treatment fits their unique needs.

Konza can coordinate follow up care and counseling for patients and their loved ones.

MAT services at our Junction City clinic are available Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Appointments are required, and all services are completely confidential.
