Nutrition and physical activity are keys to managing your type 2 diabetes, but where do you start? The Dining with Diabetes program can help!
Designed especially for people with type 2 diabetes, this program will help you learn the skills needed to promote good health.
Dining with Diabetes is a national program provided to Kansans by K-State Research & Extension and community health partners. This class is taught by two highly qualified, caring nutrition professionals who have served the local community for decades: Deb Andres, Geary County Family & Consumer Science Extension Agent and Tracy Sabo, a Registered Dietitian and Program Coordinator at Konza Prairie Community Health Center.
The program includes:
- Planning meals and snacks with delicious and healthy recipes
- Cooking demonstrations and food sampling
- Motivation and support – connecting with others who are living with diabetes
- Ideas for being more active
- Understanding how diabetes affects your overall health
Participants will learn about:
- Reading food labels
- Using a variety of sweeteners
- Using seasoning to replace salt
- The role of fiber in the diet
- The difference between various types of fat
- The importance of exercise
- Setting personal goals to manage your diabetes

About the program
Dining with Diabetes includes four 2-hour classes and a follow-up. Adults with type 2 diabetes and their family members, caregivers, and support persons are invited to participate. Couples are encouraged to attend together.
Important note: Individualized meal plans or guidance will not be provided. This course is not intended to provide individual prescriptions for diabetic meal planning and it does not replace diabetes education by qualified healthcare professionals.

Fee: FREE for first-time attendees who are Geary County residents; $25 for repeat attendees and non-Geary County residents
