Konza Prairie Community Health Center in Manhattan is moving! Beginning Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, Konza will provide clinical services at 222 North 6th Street, co-located with Via Christi Weight Management services.
At the new, larger location, Konza will add an in-house pharmacy to existing medical, dental, and behavioral health services. This expansion will more than double the organization’s capacity to meet the community’s growing needs, adding another medical provider, dental provider, and behavioral health providers. The clinic will also feature expanded service hours, open 8:00 AM-6:00 PM Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 AM-2:00 PM Fridays.
“We are excited to increase our healthcare and pharmacy services to fill gaps in access to care for a significant part of the community who need it,” said Konza CEO Danielle Hallgren. “As a health center, Konza provides essential access to integrated healthcare services for patients who are uninsured, underserved, privately insured and anywhere in between.”
Konza opened their Manhattan clinic in 2009, co-located with the Riley County Health Department. That location serves approximately 2,800 patients annually with access to comprehensive medical, dental, and behavioral health care services, including additional support services for addiction treatment, clinical nutrition, and patient resource coordination. “Local need for affordable community-based healthcare services continues to grow and – after 15 years – we have outgrown our current clinic,” said Hallgren. “We are grateful for like-minded organizations who support our mission to expand access to care for all.”
This move was made possible through a strategic collaboration between Konza and Via Christi Manhattan. Via Christi is subleasing the space to Konza making it possible for the Manhattan community to have access to a broader range of services in a single location, ensuring convenience and continuity of care.
“When we learned of Konza’s plan to expand its Manhattan location and to bring more services under one roof, we realized we could help,” said Bob Copple, President of Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. “Driven by a nationwide shortage of qualified healthcare professionals, this collaboration avoids competition for staff. Instead, it fosters a sustainable model that benefits the community.”
This move marks a significant step forward in providing comprehensive healthcare services to the community, especially to Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries, the underinsured, and uninsured populations. Riley County is identified as a Medically Underserved Area for Primary Care according to US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA GeoCare Navigator identifies there are more than 30,000 low-income residents in the Manhattan community and surrounding service area; nearly 4,000 are uninsured and not currently served by a health center.
